A sea turtle nest with 45 hatchlings was found on the shores of Magnolia Beach in Calhoun County, Texas.
“This has never happened before,” Pamela saidPlotkin, director of Texas Sea Grant. “Sea turtles typically nest on the beaches of the barrier islands in Texas, so seeing them on a beach in any bay is rare.”
For sea turtles, the period afterHatching is a struggle for survival. In the first moments of life, the cubs must rush from the sand nests into the water as quickly as possible, avoiding predators, poaching, pollution and other dangers.
Probability of hatching eggs left behindon the beach is only 45%, so intervention by conservationists could be critical. Fortunately, the turtles that hatched on Magnolia Beach were helped.

The turtles were found by repairmen Zach Padron and JasonGonzalez. While collecting trash on the beach, they saw about 25 hatchlings and noticed that they were moving in the wrong direction. The men called experts and found 20 more sea turtles that needed help getting out of the nest.
