Estonian Defense Forces conduct drills with informant combat robots

In an April 2021 exercise, ground troops maneuvered to counter a simulated attack

armored vehicles.As the main force remained in defensive positions 1 km from the enemy forces, the combat UGV THeMIS, integrated with FN Herstal's deFNder Light remote weapon system, moved to a forward position 430 m ahead.

The mission of the THeMIS Combat Support robot wastransporting anti-tank unit ammunition and providing 7.62mm machine gun fire support for anti-tank and observer teams as they advance. Meanwhile, the THeMIS Observe UGV deployed a tethered Acecore drone behind the main force for situational awareness and target intelligence for artillery.

After the main target has been destroyed,THeMIS Combat acted as a field ambulance to evacuate simulated casualties to the rear. The robots were controlled by troops via a handheld interface and an augmented reality headset.
