Experts explained why IT specialists are returning to Russia

At the beginning of the year, there was a colossal shortage of specialists in the IT market in Russia - about 1 million people,

Six months later, the situation has changed: many Russians have decided to change their profession to IT specialties.Compared to the same period in 2021, the number of resumes increased by 54%.

According to hh.ru, the increase in IT resumes over the past two years was approximately 40%. Moreover, almost all specialties are growing: programmers, testers, and data scientists.

However, the number of vacancies does not keep pace with the growthoffers on the market. Especially in conditions of economic instability. According to Habr, approximately 30% of companies reduced hiring in March 2022, and 4% began to lay off employees altogether.

The main problem voiced by the players isdominance of juniors: most applicants are graduates of online courses, while experienced professionals are looking for work in closed communities and closed bases. This was told to SF by Artem Zyza, product manager at Habr Career, and head of HR projects at Platforma Victoria Bogdanova.

The other side of the coin is mass relocationIT professionals who left with foreign companies. Over 3,000 people have left for Uzbekistan alone, and many offices have moved to Dubai and other Middle Eastern and Asian centers. And although some of the referred specialists have already returned (about 85%, according to Prime Minister Mishustin), the crisis caused by a sharp shortage of experienced IT specialists continues.

This return is also provoked by the fact that the salaries offered to Russian IT specialists in Europe turned out to be lower than in Moscow. Adds fuel to the fire and blocking Russian cards.

A tech lead in France earns €2,800 on average(about 180,000 rubles) after deducting all taxes and fees, reaching 45%. In Moscow, you cannot find a person for an identical position for less than 300,000 rubles. In addition, such a specialist can be registered as an individual entrepreneur with a tax in the region of 8%. It is also worth considering the high costs of renting apartments in the EU: in France, for a one-room apartment in Paris, you will have to pay €1,100–1,500 (about 70,000–96,000 rubles).

But, as experts note, not all specialists agreed to relocation, which means that more and more experienced IT specialists will appear on the Russian market.
