Experts have predicted how many people will live on Earth by 2100

Scientists conducted a study commissioned by the non-profit organization The Club of Rome. According to the data, if the current

trends will continue, the world population, whichcurrently 7.96 billion, peaking at 8.6 billion in the mid-century, then declining to nearly 2 billion by 2100.

The prognosis is both good, and bad news for humanity: a sharp decline in population will slightly alleviate the Earth's environmental problems. But it will also make humanity as a whole older and will reduce the proportion of people of working age. This will place an even greater burden on young people to finance health care and beyond.

The authors of the study are members of the Earth4All team, which consists of environmental scientists and economists.

“We know that rapid economicDevelopment in low-income countries has a huge impact on fertility levels,” said Per Espen Stoknes, director of the Center for Sustainable Development at the Norwegian Business School and leader of the Earth4All project.

Other models predict population growthbased on factors influencing women's social independence and bodily autonomy, such as access to education and contraception. The Earth4All model is somewhat more complex and includes variables related to the environment and the economy. These include energy abundance, inequality, food production, income levels and the impacts of future global warming.

The model predicted two possible outcomes forfuture human population. In the first, “usual” case, if nothing changes, the population will grow to 9 billion by 2050 and decline to 7.3 billion in 2100. In the second option, improved equality and a transition to “green” technologies will lead to 8.5 billion people living on the planet by mid-century, and 6 billion by 2100.
