F-22 Raptor fifth-generation fighter jets start arriving at Japanese airbase

The Air Force maintains about five dozen fighter jets in Japan. They will be replaced by fifth-generation F-22 Raptor fighters. And the first aircraft have already begun to arrive.

The Pentagon said it will continueMaintain a permanent presence at Kadena by temporarily deploying newer, more advanced aircraft to replace the F-15 as the Eagle returns back to the United States. The Ministry of Defense plans to withdraw fighters from the 44th and 67th squadrons from the air base within two years. On November 4, the first F-22 Raptor aircraft landed in Japan, which were previously based at Elmendorf-Richardson Air Force Base in Alaska.

Until the middle of the month, the United States will be transferred tothe island of Okinawa a total of a dozen fifth-generation fighters. Approximately the same number of F-15 Eagle aircraft will head to the United States. At the same time, it is not yet known whether the Pentagon is considering the possibility of deploying fighters in Japan on a permanent basis.
