LITENING makes it possible to track objects ongreat distance. In addition, the system employs a rangefinder and a laser pointer, which allow the pilot of the aircraft to launch high-precision laser-guided missiles.
The main component of LITENIGN is a thermal imagerhigh sensitivity, which operates in the visible range. It is complemented by the FLIR (Forward-Looking InfraRed) infrared station, which comes to the rescue in conditions of limited visibility.
LITENIGN is integrated into a large number ofaircraft. In addition to the F / H-18 Super Hornet, they include the fourth-generation F-16 Fighting Falcon and F-15 Eagle fighters, as well as the B-52 Stratofortress strategic bomber.
