Facebook launched cloud gaming. How the free streaming service will work

What is cloud gaming?

The very concept of cloud gaming implies that video games can be played

via a remote connection.This means that the user does not need to buy expensive equipment to play games. It’s enough just to buy a monthly subscription and play as if on someone else’s hardware.

As soon as you launch the game, the launch request is sent to the processing center and from there it returns to your computer, displaying a picture.

Of course there are downsides:

  1. High latency, much higher than on your own device
  2. It is not always possible to play offline projects
  3. Very good internet required

A special feature of this service is its hourly payment. This is convenient for users who need a little time.

"Hi-tech" previously wrote in more detail about the Perm startup Playkey. Its founder talked about the development of the company, the search for the optimal work organization and how the world of computer games is changing.

Beeline Gaming:

Beeline Gaming uses GeForce Now technologies, so the conditions will be the same as those of Nvidia.

What does Facebook offer?

Jason became the head of the FB Cloud Gaming projectRubin is a former game developer, author of Crash Bandicoot and Jak & Daxter. According to him, cloud gaming is a technology of the future, but it still has a long way to go in terms of improvements. Therefore, Rubin refused to make any long-term forecasts regarding the development of the Facebook service, since there is no point in doing so at the moment.

At the moment, users are offeredalternative in the form of streaming and free games. Product testing has already begun in the US. The feature is in beta testing and is currently supported by only five projects:

  • Asphalt 9: Legends (Gameloft);
  • Mobile Legends: Adventure (Moonton);
  • PGA TOUR Golf Shootout (Concrete Software, Inc.);
  • Solitaire: Arthur's Tale (Qublix Games);
  • WWE SuperCard (2K).

In the future, Facebook Gaming will expand andincrease the number of games available, including complex AAA projects. At the moment, development is only on the Android platform and is unlikely to appear on iOS.

The announcement also noted that the launch of FB CloudGaming starts with only free games. But it was noted that the service "is planned to be expanded." This clarification made him take it as a hint that there should later be paid levels for published game programs.

Developers can add demos of their gameson Facebook and advertise them. The company will also earn on in-game purchases - 30% of the proceeds from them will be taken by the company, 70% - by game developers. 30% of the money for purchases made on Android devices goes to Google.

As part of the initiative, players will be able to come up witha pseudonym and choose an avatar, and not use the data of the main profile. The system also supports crossplay between cloud and regular versions of projects.

Why do corporations need this?

Since cloud gaming after a whilewill become part of the ecosystem of corporations. For example, Amazon provides users with an online store, cloud hosting services, TV series. Cloud gaming service is a natural innovation.

In 2018, cloudgaming services earned $ 45 million - a fairly modest amount by the standards of the gaming market.

But by 2024, the industry promises to become much more popular. According to analysts, cloud gaming services will earn 10 times more - up to $ 450 million. The annual market growth will amount to 46.7%.

Another serious plus of cloud gaming is that piracy is impossible here. The subscription is checked automatically and if the conditions are violated, the user will be simply restricted access.
