Facebook is developing a voice assistant for virtual reality.

In 2015, Facebook was already developing its own voice assistant, M, who was supposed to help

users to make purchases in the social network messenger. However, in 2018, the company froze this project.

Facebook has now begun to develop newvoice assistant who will work in the field of VR. Artificial intelligence will also be built into the virtual reality glasses Oculus Rift and home assistant Portal, which was launched last November.

At the same time, Alexa is already built into Portal, so Facebook will not compete directly with Amazon.

The project manager was Ira Snyder, who is on Facebook as director of augmented and virtual reality. Previously, from 2009 to 2014, he held a similar post at Microsoft.

Previously, Facebook, together with the RED startup, developed the professional 3D camera Manifold, which will allow creating content for virtual reality headsets
