Facebook suspends development of Instagram Kids to rethink concept

Facebook, which owns the photo service Instagram, today announced plans to suspend its planned...

launching a version of Instagram Kids for young users to give themselves time to create new parental control tools.

In a press release written by the head of Instagramby Adam Mosseri, Facebook says it's better to give kids access to a special version of Instagram than the regular version. He also added that the project has been put on hold to allow the developers to do more work with parents.

The message goes on to say that this stepFacebook could be perceived as an admission that the idea was bad to begin with. Mosseri says this is not the case, despite people being concerned about the impact Instagram could have on children.

Parents can read the full textstatements to understand Facebook's current position. Obviously, the company is very keen to promote a version of Instagram specifically designed for children, but is not yet ready for it.
