Fantasy battle royale Spellbreak will close in early 2023

Do you remember such a shareware “battle royale” Spellbreak? Hardly. It seems that even the developers forgot about it

of Proletariat - the last big update came out almost six months ago. As a result, the team decided to completely close the project.

The studio has released update 4.20 without any description along with an appeal. In him Proletariat thanked the community for their support and announced her decision:

“After more than four years of elemental magic and spell-combining, we have made the decision to stop developing Spellbreak. We are grateful to all members of the gaming community for exploring the magical worlds and experiences we created together. Spellbreak was an ambitious project that pushed our team to push boundaries in design and development and we are excited to continue to innovate with new games in the future.”

Studio head Seth Sivak also spoke out. He briefly recounted the path Spellbreak and noticed her strong qualities, among which, for example, a full-fledged cross-play and cross-progress on the release. According to him, "battle royale" could not achieve a stable position and could not withstand the competition with "the biggest games in the world." But neither he nor the team regret the time spent.

Spellbreak started quite briskly: three weeks after the launch, it attracted the attention of more than five million gamers, got into the list of the best new products Steam for December 2020 and in the sales chart Playstation for January 2021. According to the boss Proletariat, for all the time the project has touched more than ten million people.

Servers Spellbreak shut down early next year. Recall that the game was released in 2020 on PC, Playstation, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
