Moscow to spend 1.9 billion rubles on face recognition equipment

The Moscow City Hall announced a tender for

supply of “video data processing” equipment for transport for 1.9 billion rubles. This way, authorities will be able to recognize the faces of passengers and drivers, as well as their “suspicious behavior.”

Kommersant writes about this.According to the publication, the Moscow City Hall is looking for a contractor for the supply of 454 powerful servers and data storage from 192 disks with a total capacity of almost 1.5 petabytes. The contract value is 1.91 billion rubles.

This is not the first time the authorities have purchased something like this.equipment. In November 2019, they ordered 258 servers and a data storage system with a capacity of about 9 petabytes for the city’s “video analytics system” for 1.2 billion rubles.

Experts believe that the purchase of such an amountpowerful servers will allow you to solve the problem of analyzing "large amounts of video traffic." So the authorities will be able to track suspicious persons, accidents and the condition of the roadway.
