She will become the flagship frigate of the US Navy's new class of warships. It is planned to be used to destroy enemy ships, detect submarines, and also to support ship groups. The frigate will be able to perform missions in coastal waters and in the open ocean.

If all goes according to plan, the USS Constellation(FFG 62) will be launched in 2025, and is expected to be transferred to the US Navy at the end of 2026. Construction of the main ship is estimated at $1.28 billion. Subsequent frigates will cost less - $850-950 million per unit.

USS Constellation (FFG 62) will be able to accommodate up to 200crew man. As for weapons, the frigate will be equipped with a 57-mm MK 110 cannon, a 32-section MK 41 vertical launch system, 16 naval strike missiles, an MK 49 guided missile launch system, four MK 53 MOD 9 decoy launch systems, and two AN shipborne electronic warfare systems -SLQ-32(V)6, MH-60R Seahawk helicopter with UAV and Aegis Baseline 10 combat system.
