As Germany shuts down its last nuclear power plants, Finland has decided to commission Europe's most powerful nuclear power plant.
What is known
Olkiluoto is the second nuclearFinland's power plant after Loviisan. The Finns wanted to build a third nuclear power plant, but the project, in which Russia participated, was closed after the invasion of Ukraine.
The first nuclear reactor of the Olkiluoto NPP was commissionedin operation in 1979, and the second - three years later. Their capacity is 890 MW each. Permission to build the third unit was obtained in the early 2000s.

On April 16, 2023, Finland connected topower grid block OL3 (OL3). It has a capacity of 1600 MW. Thus, with a total capacity of 3380 MW, Olkiluoto entered the top 30 nuclear power plants in the world. Together with Loviisa, the two stations provide 32.8% of the electricity in the country.
