First gameplay of Half-Life: Alyx with tests on different VR devices and press impressions

Valve let journalist Adam Savage's Tested into its walls, who managed to play Half-Life: Alyx on eight different

VR headsets.

How impressions

The first thing the journalist noted was the qualitygraphics and music. Half-Life: Alyx does not feel like a tech demo, but a full-fledged game with many interactive objects on the levels. In addition, the project was created for long sessions, and, according to the journalist, even three hours of continuous play does not tire me.

A Tested employee also praised the glovesheroines. With their help, players will interact with elements of the environment, throw objects, and even solve puzzles. In addition, to simplify interaction, the game slightly pulls the player towards the object that he is about to take, so he does not have to precisely check the actions.

At the same time, the developers decided not to simplifyshooting. Half-Life: Alyx does not have auto-aim and other assistants, and to reload you will have to do a number of actions, and not just press one button. To change the clip, you need to take the magazine out from behind your shoulder, insert it into the pistol and pull the bolt.

The journalist managed to test Half-Life:Alyx on eight VR headsets, and Valve Index turned out to be the most convenient. The game works with Oculus Rift S, Oculus Quest, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Pimax and WMR. All headsets performed well and even devices of the previous generation display a picture that is pleasing to the eye and do not restrict movement. Therefore, to play Half-Life: Alyx, you don’t have to buy a new VR helmet or the same Valve Index.

Let us remind you that Half-Life: Alyx will be released on PC in March 2020.
