Fossils of a huge lizard accidentally found in Texas

Steven Cruz changed his usual route because he was tired, and he did not regret it.He accidentally found a piece of

15 cm long spine at the North Salpher River, about 130 km northeast of theDallas, USA.

At 100 meters away, he found the rest of the fossilized bones that belong to the mosasaurus. This is a huge 10-meter sea lizard that lived in the seas about 80 million years ago.

Recently, paleontologists at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science dug up fossils from the soft, clay-like rock of the creek bed. They unearthed parts of the mosasaur's skull, mandibular bones, and several vertebrae.

This is important work for scientists: although mosasaurs are extinct, studying their past canto give us a glimpse into the present. Understanding what ancient creatures ate and how they interacted with their environment will helppaleontologists to learn more about what life was like for millions of yearsBack.
