Found a connection between the number of friends in a social network and hostility

An Israeli researcher published quite interesting results of his work: according to him, they

a connection was found between the number of friends on the social network Twitter and hostility.

To do this, Bumsu Kim, a Jewish fellowUniversity of Jerusalem, conducted an analysis of the reaction of Internet users from South Korea to media reports about the outbreak of COVID-19 in China. The scientist set up an algorithm that “circumvented” about 30 thousand different Twitter messages for the period from February 10 to February 14 of this year.

As a result, the researcher concluded that thanTwitter users have more “Internet friends”, that is, connections on the network, so, as a rule, they are more friendly and write fewer hostile messages. The scientist believes that people were encouraged by the positive reaction of other users in the comments on a more civilized style of communication.
