Found a planet on the edge of the habitable zone. Its temperature is similar to Earth's.

Astronomers from Switzerland and Austria have discovered a new alien world. An exoplanet orbits the nearest

an M-type dwarf star and at least four times as massive as Earth.

Mass of the newly discovered planet L 363-38 bis about 4.67 Earth masses, and its radius is estimated to range from 1.55 to 2.75 of the radius of our planet. The exoplanet orbits its host star every 8.78 days at a distance of about 0.048 AU, which is at the inner edge of the habitable zone. The equilibrium temperature of L 363-38 b is approximately 330 Kelvin (56.85 ℃) and is similar to that of Earth.

An astronomical unit (AU) is a unit of distance measurement in astronomy, approximately equal to the average distance from the Earth to the Sun. Currently accepted to be exactly 149,597,870,700 meters.

Родительская звезда L 363-38 (другие designations: LHS 1134 and GJ 3049), estimated to be 8 billion years old, has a radius of about 0.274 solar radii and a mass of about 0.21 solar masses. The measured effective temperature of this star was 3129K.

For the search, scientists used a spectrographEchelle SPectrograph for Rocky Exoplanets and Stable Spectroscopic Observations (ESPRESSO).

ESPRESSO is a modern, ultra-stablehigh-resolution spectrograph installed on the Very Large Telescope (VLT) in Chile. It covers the spectral range from approximately 380 nm to 788 nm. The instrument achieves precision that helps find Earth-like planets around Sun-like stars.

A group of astronomers led by Leah F.Sartori from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Switzerland, is conducting the ESPRESSO blind radial velocity search for planets around nearby stars. One of their targets was L 363-38, an M-class dwarf star located approximately 33.3 light-years from Earth. They observed it from December 12, 2020 to February 8, 2022. In total, astronomers made 31 observations, as a result of which they discovered a new planet.
