Found an unusual radio signal: scientists do not understand where it comes from

GLEAM-X J162759.5-523504.3 is a recently discovered pulsar with a rotation period of approximately 1,091 seconds. It happens

short-term radio bursts that last about one month. The duration of the pulses varies from 30 to 60 seconds. 

Pulsars are highly magnetized rotatingneutron stars. They also emit a beam of electromagnetic radiation. They can be detected by short bursts of radio emission, but some are also detected using optical, x-ray and gamma-ray telescopes.

Some astronomers suggest that the rotatingmagnetized white dwarfs can be as active as pulsars. To date, scientists have found only one such case - the white dwarf pulsar - AR Scorpii (AR Sco).

Scientists still don't know the long periodGLEAM-X J162759.5-523504.3, since usually the rotation periods of radio pulsars and single neutron stars do not exceed 20 seconds, and for the studied pulsar it reaches 60 seconds. 

The authors of the new work stated that the special propertiesGLEAM-XJ162759.5-523504.3 can be explained by the fact that it is a white dwarf pulsar. They added that this hypothesis is confirmed by the Lorentz coefficient - this is a formula that relates the refractive index of a substance to the electronic polarizability of the particles (atoms, ions, molecules) of which it consists.
