Fraudsters attacked WhatsApp users with Adidas

ESET cybersecurity experts have discovered a new phishing attack targeting WhatsApp users.

The attackers spread messages through the messenger that Adidas was celebrating its anniversary and allegedly donated T-shirts and shoes.

According to a company press release, the messagecontained the following text: “Adidas is giving away 5,300 pairs of shoes and 2,700 T-shirts in honor of the anniversary!” It also had a link that you had to click to “receive the gift.” The user ended up not landing on the Adidas website. In addition, the scammers were given away by the use of the old Adidas logo.

After clicking on the link, the victim was asked to complete a survey and then send a message about the competition to another 20 friends. This is how the phishing email spread.

ESET experts advise caution with any messages about discounts, sales and promotions, since with their help attackers can gain access to personal data.
