Fraudsters began to actively use public Wi-Fi to steal data

Artur Yanbulatov, an information security analyst at the Digital Economy League, warned

users about the use of free Wi-Fi hotspots by fraudsters to steal data.

The specialist said that the scammers are disguisedunder public Wi-Fi networks and imitate the names of cafes and other establishments. And, since users connect to networks automatically, they do not notice the substitution.

Yanbulatov noted that Wi-Fi adapters insmartphones are configured to connect to the access point with the best signal, and this leads the user to the scammer's network. The expert advised using public Wi-Fi networks only to search for information, but not to transfer important data.

“When using public Wi-Fi, it is necessary to refuse to enter logins and passwords for accounts, bank card data,” Artur Yanbulatov emphasized.
