Google's current music streaming service is YouTube Music. Earlier this month, Google
Opting out of optional music selection andunlimited skips makes YouTube Music more similar to free Spotify accounts, where mobile devices don't allow you to select specific songs (you can only shuffle albums or playlists) and also limit the number of times you can click the "Skip" button. The ability to watch YouTube Music videos will also disappear for free accounts.
Here are all the features available to free YouTube Music accounts once the changes take effect:
- Listening to music in the background
- Play personalized mixes in shuffle mode
- Search for mixes for “mood”, for example, for training, commuting, etc.
- Search songs and playlists
And here are the features that require a paid YouTube Music subscription:
- Listening to music on demand (for example, not in random order, but in albums)
- Watching Videos on YouTube Music
- Unlimited track skipping
- Lack of advertising
The changes will begin in Canada on November 3, the samethe day when free background play will appear. Google says it “will keep everyone updated on plans to expand the new plans worldwide”.
