GA-ASI tested an upgraded version of the MQ-9A Reaper drone

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) has tested an unmanned aerial vehicle for the first timeMQ-9A Multi-Domain Operations (M2DO).

They took place in the fall of 2022, but we learned about them only now.

What is known

To begin with, we note that the MQ-9A M2DO isan upgraded version of the Block 5 level MQ-9A Reaper drone. Our hero is also known as "-25". It is equipped with a set of advanced sensors that can enhance the strategic intelligence capabilities of the MQ-9A Reaper.

November 10, 2022 production model MQ-9A M2DOmade the first flight in its history. GA-ASI will supply upgraded versions of the MQ-9A Reaper Block 5 "-25" with the M2DO system to the US Armed Forces and Marine Corps. However, the number is not specified.

The American manufacturer is now engaged indevelopment of several more variants of the MQ-9. In particular, last year GA-ASI began work on a modification of the drone with a short takeoff and landing. The software has already been tested by the US Air National Guard.

Late last year, GA-ASI tested for the first timeMQ-9A Reaper with NATO Pod for payload. In addition, the company is partnering with Hughes Network Systems and SES to provide the MQ-9B SkyGuardian with satellite communications.
