Galaxy S9 will be the best flagship of the year if ...

Samsung will soon announce the Galaxy S9. Of course, not as soon as we would like, however, according to rumors,

this will happen in the first months of 2018 –a little earlier than the usual time of presentations of the flagship Galaxy. It is expected to be amazing – however, other manufacturers are also not standing still. What does Samsung need to do to make the S9 better than its competitors?

According to earlier information, the new productwill be equipped with a new camera with a higher resolution and an improved Super AMOLED display. In addition, this will be the company's first flagship with Android 8 Oreo out of the box.

Despite the fact that these improvements definitely sound great, after using the Galaxy S8 we would like to mention 10 things that would be great to refine or fix in the Galaxy S9.

Users don't really need fasterprocessor, additional gigabytes of RAM or an increase in other numbers in the list of characteristics. We will talk about things that directly affect the daily use of a smartphone. Some of this – defects found in S8, something – cool technologies that other manufacturers use, but Galaxy doesn’t have them yet. If Samsung makes all these changes, it will definitely create the best smartphone of 2018.

1. Location of the fingerprint scanner

Everyone faces the main drawback of the Galaxy S8day. We are talking, of course, about the extremely unfortunate location of the biometric scanner – right next to the camera module. In addition, the scanner itself is also quite small – leaving a stain on the camera instead of unlocking your smartphone is easy. And for users with small hands, it is also inconvenient to reach for the scanner with their finger.

A number of leaks and renders reports that the Galaxy S9 will move the scanner under the camera. Thanks to this, problems with spots on the camera and with the inaccessibility of the sensor will be solved.

2. More stable Samsung Experience

Despite the top ultra-fast processor anda large amount of RAM, the smooth operation of Samsung Experience leaves much to be desired. In addition, the interface works with large jerks or glitches. Yes, you get used to them quite quickly, but it really stands out if, after using the Galaxy S8 for a long time, you pick up an iPhone or Pixel – Yes, even in OnePlus the system works more stable! Apparently, the Samsung Experience interface code is too heavy. I would, of course, like Samsung to improve it and optimize it for smooth operation at a constant 60 FPS.

3. Quality speakers

Not everyone listens to music through their smartphone speakers.– their quality cannot compare with a good pair of headphones or normal external speakers – but sometimes you still have to do this. For example, if you want to show a YouTube video to a group of friends, wouldn't you be looking for a bunch of headphone splitters? In such a situation, I would like the sound quality to be excellent, but the Galaxy S8 is frankly average. The speakers in newer smartphones like iPhone 8, Pixel 2 and even OnePlus 5T sound much better – however, most of them are also protected from moisture.

4. Support Project Treble

Project Treble is a platform that speeds up the processupdating Android devices to the new firmware version. It solves the well-known problem with updates: almost instantaneous update to the latest Android for Nexus and Pixel devices and, at best, several months of waiting for smartphones from other manufacturers. Project Treble was introduced in Android O – Essentially, the system has become modular and updates will now be released to all compatible devices almost simultaneously.

However, the Galaxy S8 is still stuck on Android 7Nougat, although Pixels received Android O a few months ago. Samsung is not slower than other manufacturers, no. But they are all slow – and that is precisely the problem. With Project Treble, Google will be able to provide third-party Android devices with updates in no time. Let's cross our fingers that the Galaxy S9 will support this technology.

5. Portrait mode

Pixel 2 showed that the smartphone is not at allIt is imperative to have a dual camera module to ensure portrait mode works. Although it was clear from the very beginning that the main camera of the Galaxy S8 would be a single camera, many had pinned their hopes on this feature. In vain: instead, Samsung added an inconvenient and slow Selective Focus mode, which clearly requires further improvement to be considered a flagship feature.

6. Headphone jack

Wireless headphones – this is cool, no doubt about itNo. However, not everyone is willing to pay $200 or more for a good wireless headset. Over the past year, many manufacturers have been abandoning this module for the sake of moisture protection and reducing the thickness of the smartphone, but we hope that Samsung will listen to the wishes of users and leave the 3.5 jack in its next flagship.

7. Beautiful wallpaper

Yes, it’s definitely a trifle, but it’s from triflesThe appearance of the flagship device. The pre-installed screensavers on the desktop in the Galaxy S8 are of rather poor quality, and the choice is quite limited. Of course, you can choose normal wallpapers from hundreds of third-party applications, but it would be great if Samsung had given a little more attention to the selection of images.

8. Configuring the Bixby Button

The fact is that for most users thisthe button is absolutely useless. And what, first of all, is the point of making a separate key to activate the voice assistant? Much more useful would be a button to activate silent mode (yes, like on the iPhone) or simply the ability to reconfigure the functionality of this button to suit the user’s needs. For example, launch Google Assistant (many people really like it more than Samsung’s proprietary AI) or perform some other function.

9. 4K video editing

Apps like iMovie are definitely lacking inSamsung ecosystem. The built-in video editor is capable of processing videos in a resolution no higher than 1080p. And this is sad, considering that the processor is definitely powerful enough to handle 4K video processing.

10. More internal storage.

Samsung is now selling its flagshipthe only modification: with 64 GB of internal memory. Of course, this will be enough for some users, and support for micro SD with a capacity of up to 256 GB smoothes the situation. Nevertheless, the speed of reading and writing to the built-in drive is higher than to the fastest memory card, so it would be great to be able to choose an advanced version with increased memory capacity.

Conclusion

Samsung does not need to completely change the conceptflagship line to make the Galaxy S9 a success. S8 has already laid an excellent foundation. But a little effort and work on errors by the manufacturer will definitely help the flagship of 2018 to take its rightful place not only on store shelves, but also in the hearts of users.
