George Lucas is planning a re-release of Star Wars. Again. But now in vertical format.

Star Wars is being re-released again. This time in a vertical format. George Lucas himself said this:

by posting a photo of him sitting on his Instagramon the floor of his Skywalker Ranch, known to all Star Wars fans, next to a vertical TV showing a poster with a hodgepodge of Star Wars characters.

In the comments, the opinion of the fans is, of course, divided. Some people in every possible way welcome the appearance of cult films in a progressive format, convenient for viewing on a smartphone screen. Others, predictably indignant, they say, the master, in his old age, completely lost his mind and decided to ruin his greatest creation of life with his own hands.

Official comment from Disney, whichnow owns both the LucasFilm studio and the rights to the entire Star Wars franchise, says: “The Disney studio adheres to the spirit of the company laid down by its creator, Walt Disney, and cannot remain aloof from technological progress, just like the multi-million army of fans of the franchise around the world . We can no longer ignore the development of vertical video, which is becoming mainstream for young audiences. We strive to ensure that the new generation also has the opportunity to watch all the episodes of the saga in a format convenient for them and at a convenient time. The smartphone today is the main device for young people, so we are confident in the success of the project. And in the near future we will convert not only all canonical films, but also new ones, including TV series, into a vertical format.”

As a partner of the Vertical Star ProjectWar was made by Samsung, which plans to give US customers an annual subscription to the Disney + streaming service when selling its Sero vertical TVs, and has already released a banner ad to that effect.

Other Hollywood Filmmakersfor now they are refraining from commenting and are in no hurry to share their plans for the re-release of their films in a vertical format. But the head of Netflix, Reed Hastings, reposted the news on Twitter about the Star Wars reboot, while attacking Elon Musk with the phrase “How do you like that, Elon Musk” that has already set everyone’s teeth on edge?
