Germany sent the first IRIS-T air defense system to Ukraine

Against the backdrop of massive rocket attacks on Ukrainian cities, the German Ministry of Defense announced

dispatch of the first IRIS-T air defense system to Ukraine.

What is known

The corresponding message was published inTwitter on the official page of the German Ministry of Defense. The head of the Bundeswehr, Christine Lambrecht, said that the first of four IRIS-T air defense systems would be delivered within a few days.

Note that before the end of the year, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive two IRIS-T systems, and two more will be delivered in early 2023. The deal with Diehl Defense was financed by the German government.

The IRIS-T complex includes a launcher ontracked or wheeled chassis with Infra Red Imaging System Tail missiles and TRML-4D radar station. The maximum target engagement range is 40 km, and the height is – up to 20 km.
