Gilmour will develop a unique Eris launch vehicle with an electric motor to operate in a vacuum

The Australian company Gilmour Space Technologies is working on a unique rocket that will be equipped

electric motor. The development is called Eris.

What is known

The rocket will have a height of 25 meters. She will receive two steps with a diameter of 2 meters (first) and 1.5 meters (second). Eris will be an ultra-light rocket designed to deliver payloads to sun-synchronous or equatorial orbit. The maximum payload weight will be 305 kg.

Eris is the first fully national spaceAustralia project. The rocket will include five Sirius engines powered by liquid oxidizer and solid fuel. To pump the liquid oxidizer, the main feature of Eris will be used - an electric motor with an inverter capable of operating in a vacuum.

The use of silicon carbide in developmentThe inverter makes it possible to increase the power of power units several times, while maintaining a small mass of the product. Vacuum operation is ensured by a sealed capsule made of carbon fiber.

The electric motor is developed by the companyEquipmake from UK. Gilmour Space Technologies has already tested it as part of the Siruis static fire test. During 90 seconds of work, a thrust of 115 kN was created.

First launch of Eris rocket scheduled for April2023. Gilmour Space Technologies looks to the future with optimism. The company plans to create more powerful rockets that can be used in manned space missions.
