Google ditches automatic "beauty mode" selfies in new Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a - for the sake of mental health of users

Google has made some changes to the proprietary Google Camera application related to various filters

and selfie retouching.

What changed

Previously, a “beauty regime” that eliminated facial imperfectionsand skin smoothing was turned on automatically, and many users didn’t even know about it. But Google found that by retouching photos, people were setting too high expectations for their appearance. Simply put, they compared themselves to “ideal” pictures, which has a negative impact on their psyche.

Therefore, in the Pixel 5, Pixel 4a and Pixel 4a smartphones5G automatic retouching is disabled. Of course, users will be able to choose various filters to improve their photos, but they will do this independently and consciously. Moreover, when you select a mode, a corresponding notification will appear on the screen. You can also adjust the strength of the effect.

Google is calling on other manufacturers to turn off automatic modes and not use the word “beauty” in their names. Whether anyone will listen to this advice is not certain.
