Google Pay doesn't do that: Apple is being sued for contactless payment fees

A class-action lawsuit has been filed against Apple, alleging that the company has an illegal monopoly on

contactless payments on iPhone. This allows it to force card issuers to pay fees. Discuss

The lawsuit was filed at the initiative of Affinity CreditUnion, which issues debit and credit cards compatible with Apple Pay. The lawsuit alleges that Apple makes more than $1 billion a year by charging credit card companies up to 0.15% per transaction through Apple Pay. At the same time, issuers pay nothing when their customers use "functionally identical services for Android."

The lawsuit alleges that Apple violates antitrust law by making Apple Pay the only service capable of making NFC payments on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.

The purpose of the complaint is to change Apple's policy and force the company to refund card issuers fees.
