Google will allow political emails to bypass Gmail's spam filters

The U.S. Federal Election Commission (FEC) has approved Google's proposal to allow emails

sent as part of an election campaign, bypass Gmail's spam filters.

The FEC advisory states that the Gmail pilot program is permissible under the Federal Election Campaign Act and FEC rules.

On July 1, Google asked the FEC to give the green light to the program after Republicans accused the company of favoring Democrats with its algorithms.

Republicans could reportedly avoidsome spam problems on Gmail using the correct email configuration. In May 2022, at a meeting between Senate Republicans and Google's top lawyer, the "strongest rebuke ever" came from Senator Marco Rubio, who said that “not a single letter from one of his addresses ends up in mailboxes,” The Washington Post reported.

The reason, as it turned out later, was thatthat an authentication tool that prevents messages from being marked as spam was not included, according to people with knowledge of the discussion.
