Greece buys Orbiter 3 drones along with Spike anti-tank missiles worth $404 million

Last week, it was reported that Greece had allocated almost half a billion dollars for the acquisition

Spike anti-tank missiles. As it became known, the deal includes not only ammunition, but also Orbiter 3 unmanned aerial vehicles.

What is known

The deal was signed by the head of the Main DepartmentDefense Investment and Armaments of Greece by Aristeidis Alexopulos and Israeli Defense Ministry Director General Eyal Zamir. The contract value was €370 million ($403 million).

Orbiter 3 was developed by Aeronautics,a subsidiary of Rafael. It is used to search for targets that will be destroyed by Spike anti-tank missiles. The unmanned aerial vehicle is able not only to search for targets, but also to determine their type.

The drone weighs 32 kg and can stay in the air forwithin six hours. Orbiter 3 is suitable for reconnaissance, surveillance and reconnaissance missions. As part of the $403 million contract, Greece will receive dozens of drones, but the exact number is still unknown.

Orbiter 3 doesn't need a runway to launch. During the flight, it can navigate even in areas where there is no GPS signal.
