Greenpeace names countries that could disappear due to global warming

Pacific island nations are already suffering from increasingly powerful sea tides, strong

hurricanes, groundwater salinity, andother disasters related to climate change. Many islands simply find themselves under water due to rising sea levels. Global warming will worsen and these problems will only become more serious.

Warnings of a worsening situation soundedafter the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released a landmark report on global warming on Monday. It showed that greenhouse gas emissions need to be halved to limit heating to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

Greenpeace Australia Pacific's new reportexperts highlight the dramatic climate injustice facing the Pacific region. It is one of the regions with the lowest carbon emissions in the world (just 0.23% of all). However, he was one of the first to suffer, and the consequences of climate change will affect the region the most.

“Pacific island states will feelwill experience the devastating consequences of global warming in the near future. Places like Kiribati, Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands will become catastrophic and uninhabitable areas,” the Guardian quotes Nicola Casule as saying.
