The security update comes out under the name iOS 14.4.2 and iPadOS 14.4.2. watchOS is also being updated to version 7.3.3.
Google researchers discovered the vulnerabilityProject Zero. Apple says it could already be actively used by hackers. The vulnerability was found in the WebKit engine, which underlies Apple's proprietary Safari browser.
It is not yet known who exactly actively used the vulnerability, and whether anyone became its victim. Apple did not say if the attack targeted a small group of users or if it was a larger attack.
The company is releasing a security-only update for the third time in a year.
