Harvard presented the Galileo project to search for extraterrestrial civilizations

An international team of researchers led by astronomers from Harvard University announced

launch of the Galileo project, which aims tosearch for technologies created by extraterrestrial civilizations. The project was launched a month after the Pentagon report, which described 143 UFO encounters that the organization could not explain.

On June 25 this year, the Pentagon published a report on143 UFO encounters that cannot be explained either by climatic phenomena or by technology from other countries. The report says that the aerial objects have shown extremely unusual flight characteristics, as well as other properties that cannot be explained by the current level of technological development. The Pentagon noted that it could be some secret technologies of China or Russia unknown to the United States.

July 26, one month after the report was publishedPentagon, 10 scientists from Harvard, Princeton, Cambridge, Stockholm and California Institute of Technology have officially announced the launch of the joint Galileo project. The project is aimed at finding technologies created by extraterrestrial civilizations. The Galileo project is funded by private investors who have already contributed an impressive $ 1.75 million.

Within the framework of the project, it is planned to deploya global network of medium-sized telescopes, sensitive cameras and computers to be used to detect UFOs. This global network will operate in three main areas:

  • Shooting ultra-high-resolution objects with telescopes, studying them and publishing them in the public domain
  • Search and in-depth study of interstellar objects with the help of the Vera Rubin Observatory and other interested organizations.
  • Search for hypothetical alien satellites about a meter or less, with which aliens can explore the Earth.

One of the scientists who participated in the Galileo project,Harvard professor Avi Loeb said that the possibility that other technological civilizations preceded humanity cannot be ignored. According to him, it is not the military and politicians who should investigate various cases of UFO sightings, but the scientific community. He called this area a new stage in astronomy, called space archeology, and complemented the existing SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) project.
