Harvard Virologists: Coronavirus re-pandemic could happen before 2024

According to forecasts, the existing quarantine - with short breaks and relaxations - may be extended

up to 2022. This development of events will be relevant if virologists do not develop a vaccine against coronavirus, or if states do not increase the capabilities of their medical systems.

In this case, even in the case of natural attenuationepidemics, when one carrier of the virus infects on average less than one person, the possibility of a new outbreak of coronavirus infection will be very great until 2024.

Researchers say it’s not yet clearwhether patients with COVID-19 develop immunity to coronavirus and how long it can last. At Harvard, it is noted that if the immunity lasts for more than five years, then it may be possible to almost completely get rid of the virus.

At the same time, WHO experts, despite statements by leaders of some countries about a possible weakening of quarantine, also say that it will be possible to defeat coronavirus only with the help of a vaccine.

Now in 185 countries of the world there are about2.08 million cases of infection with this infection. 80% of all cases occur in nine countries - the USA, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Great Britain, China, Iran and Turkey. At the same time, in China, where the virus came from, there is a significant reduction in the epidemic. Since the end of 2019, 134 thousand people have died from coronavirus infection, more than 510 thousand people have been cured. In Russia, there are a total of 27,938 patients with coronavirus infection, 232 patients died, 2,304 were cured.
