Here's a twist: the € 1,299 flagship Sony Xperia 1 III only gets one major Android update

Information has appeared online about how long Sony plans to support its new flagship smartphone Xperia 1 III.

What is known

According to the Dutch divisioncompany, the device will receive only one major system update. Currently, the Xperia 1 III runs on Android 11. Therefore, we are talking about Android 12. Then the device will receive monthly security patches for two years. And this is strange, because other manufacturers, on the contrary, have begun to increase the support period for smartphones. For example, Samsung will now update devices for 4 years, while Google is rumored to extend support to 5 years.

Let us remind you that the Sony Xperia 1 III is equipped with an elongated 6.5-inch 4K HDR OLED display with Gorilla Glass Victus protection and 120 Hz frequency. The new product is powered by the Snapdragon 888 chip with a built-in 5G modem. The device is not afraid of water (thanks to IP65/68 certification). It is powered by a 4,500mAh battery that supports 30W charging. The Xperia 1 III also has NFC, a side scanner, a headphone jack, stereo speakers and advanced cameras: an 8 MP front camera and a 12 MP + 12 MP + 12 MP + 3D ToF main camera with Zeiss optics. In Europe, the flagship costs 1,299 euros.
