Experts from the Center for Diabetes Research andof metabolism at Sichuan University in China and Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, a recent study concluded that the substance chlorophyllin may help people with inflammatory bowel disease. It has also been found that this compound can significantly reduce mortality from inflammatory bowel disease, weight loss, diarrhea symptoms and blood in the stool, damage to the intestinal epithelium, infiltration (leakage) of inflammatory cells.

In order to find out how chlorophyllin, whichobtained from a pigment that is part of plants, affects the intestines, scientists conducted several experiments. Mice participated in these experiments. It turned out that taking chlorophyllin as a supplement reduced the manifestation of colitis and various anomalies in the intestines of animals. Also, the consumption of green vegetables and chlorophyllin may be beneficial for those suffering from inflammatory bowel disease.
The results of the study were published in the American Journal of Physiology-Gastrointestinal and Liver Physiology.
