How an old computer can be useful: four options

Over time, like all equipment, a desktop computer becomes obsolete. But sometimes such equipment is thrown away

In fact, even a small computer power may be enough today for some tasks. Therefore, do not rush to throw away your old PC. It may still be of use to you.

  1. Upgrade. Now buy a completely new PC –quite expensive. So you can try to improve the old one. If you do not need to work in very demanding programs, then you can increase the amount of RAM, change thermal paste, get rid of dust inside the system unit, and update the cooling system. When choosing an operating system, it makes sense to choose an optimized version of Linux. There is also something in between Windows and Android – CloudReady. Thanks to this, even an old computer will work quickly.

  2. Entertainment. With the upgrade described above, you will already be able torun some games on the computer. But if you are going to play Need for Speed, Call of Duty, then you will have to buy a new graphics card and processor. You can buy all this in the secondary market.

  1. Database or home library. It doesn't matter how powerful your computer is,if you need to store information on it. You can put books, videos, music and other data on your old PC. Also, when accessing the Network, you will have the opportunity to expand this volume through cloud storage. Another option – purchase an additional hard drive.

  2. "Brain" for the local network. A local area network is a collection of various devices. An old computer can do a great job as a switch (connector) for these devices.
