similar species of dinosaurs.

In February, another team of scientists suggested thatthere was a whole family of tyrannosaurs. The proposed classification startled the paleontological community, sparking a passionate debate. Now researchers have published the first rebuttal.

“The evidence was not conclusive andthere had to be a response because tyrannosaur research goes way beyond science into the public realm. It would be unwise to leave the public thinking that the multi-species hypothesis was a fact," the scientists explained.

The authors of this hypothesis mainly appealed tothe fact that the found specimens of tyrannosaurs had a different build, a strong variation in the thickness of the femur and a different number of incisor teeth. Now scientists have declared that all these arguments are untenable. They analyzed the size of the femurs in 112 species of modern and 4 species of extinct theropods and showed that variation in thickness is not something exceptional and a reason to identify new species.
