Scientists from China have invented a hydrogel for cleaning and whitening teeth without a toothbrush, toothpaste and floss.

When applied to the teeth, the hydrogel creates a film that cleans and whitens the enamel without destroying it. The preparation included nanoparticles of bismuth oxychloride, copper oxide and sodium alginate.
During the research, scientists tested the effectfilms on teeth stained with coffee, tea, blueberry juice and soy sauce. The enamel was exposed with a gel using green light. As a result, it turned out that the drug, in conjunction with light, not only cleans the enamel, but also does not damage it.
In addition, the hydrogel also turned out to be a bactericidal agent: the drug destroys about 94% of bacteria in the mouth.
