How to copy files and folders on Mac using the Duplicate feature

If you often need to make copies of files or folders on your Mac, you'll be glad to know that you can

very easy and quick to do thanks to the functionDuplicate in the Finder menu. The name of the function speaks for itself - it creates an exact copy of any file or folder you select and saves it in the same place as the original.

For example, if you have a “Document” file and youmake a copy of it, the “Document copy” file will appear. This way you can copy any files and folders, and the copy name will always have a “copy” in order to make it easier to distinguish.

The Duplicate function creates only one copy of the file, but if you copy the folder, then copies of all its contents will be created.

How to copy files and folders toMac OS

  1. Open Finder on Mac and find the file or folder you want to make a copy of.
  2. Click on the desired file or folder.
  3. Open the File menu and select the Duplicate option.
  4. When copying is completed, a copy of the selected document or folder will appear in the same place, and there will be a “copy” in its name.

In the screenshot above, you can see that we have made a copy of the document “IMG_0553.JPG” and it is called “IMG_0553 - copy.JPG”.
