Emoticons are the most popular componentSMS communications on iOS devices. Some users even update their devices for the sole purpose of – get new emoticons. However, you don’t need to put yourself before a choice: jailbreak or new emoticons. In this article, we'll show you how to get the new emoji from iOS 10.2 on jailbroken devices running iOS 9.

This method uses the Emoji10 emoticon package, released by the developer “Poomsmart”. Please note that while iOS 10.2 emoticons can be installed on jailbroken devices with iOS firmware up to iOS 6, as well as iOS 10, for brevity, I will give here a process for devices running iOS 9. The process for other versions of iOS is similar, but may require the use of other packages. Refer to the Poomsmart web page for details.

Requirements

 • Jailbreak device.
 • Bytafont 3
 • Poomsmart repository in Cydia.
 • vxBakerxv repository on Cydia.

Instructions

one)Firstly, launch the "Cydia" application and add the following two repositories:

https://vxbakerxv.github.io/repo/

https://poomsmart.github.io/repo/

The Poomsmart repository has variouspackages "Emoji10". Therefore, we must allow our iOS 9 devices to operate on the layout and keyboard attributes of emoticons designed for iOS 10.2. The vxBakerxv repository stores iOS 10.2 emoticon font files themselves.

2)If you haven't already, install BytaFont 3 from the ModMyi repository that comes with the Cydia app by default.

BytaFont 3 will be used to work with Emoji10 fonts, after the Poomsmart tweak sets up our device to work with it.

3 a)If you are running iOS 9.0 and 9.1 inclusive, then find and install the following packages:

 • Emoji10 (iOS 9.0-9.3) – Poomsmart
 • Emoji OS iOS 10 – vxBakerxv
 • EmojiAttributes – Poomsmart
 • EmojiLocalization – Poomsmart
 • EmojiResources - Poomsmart

The last three packages in the above list, can be automatically queued for installation, when trying to install the tweak “Emoji10” (iOS 9.0-9.3). If they are not queued for download, then install them manually.

3 b)If you are running iOS 9.2 and 9.3.3 inclusive, then install the following packages:

 • Emoji10 (iOS 9.0-9.3) – Poomsmart
 • EmojiAttributes – Poomsmart
 • Emoji OS iOS 10 – vxBakerxv

four)After the device resprings, open the “BytaFont 3” application.

five)Go to the "Swap Mode" tab and select "Emoji".

6)On the Emoji screen, select the “Emoji10” layout to replace the original set of emoji on your device with the updated set from iOS 10.2.

7)Respring the device again when prompted.

eight)After the device restarts, open anymessaging app and go to the "Emoji" keyboard. Check for additional emojis from iOS 10.2, such as "Whiskey" or "Bacon". If they are, then everything is fine!

Reset

one)Open the "BytaFont 3" application and go to the "Swap Mode" tab – "Emoji"

2)Click the buttonRestore BytaFont backup»To restore the original original set of emoticons from the original iOS version.

3)Now we have to remove the "Emoji10" packages fromCydia applications. If you don't do this, your keyboard layout will still be set to use the layout from iOS 10.2, but without the 10.2 Emoji font, your device will still have spaces in your current keyboard layout.

To do this, open the Cydia application and remove all packages from the list below (maybe not all of them will be on your device):

 • Emoji10 (IOS 9.0-9.3) – Poomsmart
 • Emoji iOS 10 – vxBakerxv
 • EmojiAttributes – Poomsmart
 • EmojiLocalization – Poomsmart
 • EmojiResources - Poomsmart

four)Reboot your device and make sure your device is running the original set of emoji.

And that is all. These packages are useful in that they also allow you to view emoticons from the iOS 10.2 package in messages received on your device from those users whose devices are running iOS 10.2. Enjoy the opportunity to express emotions such as “Faсepalm (embarrassment or frustration)” and “ROFL (wallowing on the floor laughing)” without giving up the jailbreak on your device!
