How to understand whether it is possible to improve the computer inexpensively or it makes no sense and it is easier to take a new one

Let’s say your computer’s power is no longer enough for games and work programs. Solve this problem

can be done in two ways: first – upgrade an existing PC, a second – buy a new one. But how to make the right choice? Discuss

The host of the My Computer YouTube channel told in which cases it makes sense to buy new spare parts for an old computer, and in which it is easier to purchase a new computer.

In general, not all PCs make sense to improve. If you want modern games to run at a frame rate of at least 30 fps on your computer, then you need SSE 4.2 support. This includes Intel Core 1 (LGA 1156), 2, 3 (LGA 1155), 4, 5 (LGA 1150), 6, 7 (LGA 1151 v1) 8, 9 (LGA 1151 v2), 10, 11 (LGA 1200) ), 12 (LGA 1700) and AMD FX 4000-8000 (AM3+), Ryzen (AM4).

The expert also gave some general advice oncomputer upgrade. First of all, you need to abandon the hard drives (HDD). In general, the most optimal would be to leave the hard drive for games, and just take a 100 GB SSD for the system. But since many modern projects already require an SSD to run, it is better to completely abandon the HDD.

Second tip – need to increase the volumeRAM in the computer up to 16 GB. If we talk about the frequency of RAM, then everything depends on the motherboard. If memory overclocking is supported, then it makes sense to take DDR3 1866 MHz memory modules; if it is not supported, then you need to choose the maximum with which the processor and motherboard can work (usually 1333 or 1600 MHz).

If we talk about improving AM3 +, then we needunderstand that processors like the FX 8300 with frequencies above 4 GHz get very hot and even have 125 watts in stock. Therefore, you will need to buy an inexpensive tower with several heat pipes for it. Of the video cards, it is best to take the GTX 1650 or RX 6500 XT (the latter will cost less and can be ordered from China).

Early versions of Intel processors on LGA 1156, LGA1155 and LGA 1150 do not differ much in terms of performance. Therefore, they can be improved in one way: by purchasing a powerful Xeon processor and bringing the amount of RAM to 16 GB. Zeon X3440 and Zeon X3470 are suitable for LGA 1156. However, this platform only supports PCIe 2.0. Choosing a graphics card depends on whether you plan to overclock your PC. If not, then take a GTX 1650-level graphics accelerator, and if so, then RTX 3050.

With LGA 1155 the situation is a bit different. If you are going to take a graphics card like GTX 1060, then you can also buy an E3-1270 processor. If you buy an RTX 3050, then you should buy an E3-1230 V2 for it.

For LGA 1150, the best option would be the E3-1240 V3. From video cards – RX 6500 XT or RTX 3050.

For modern AM4 platforms you need to achieve 16GB of RAM. If we talk about frequency, then in the absence of overclocking support by the chipset, it is worth taking the possible maximum (usually – 2400-3200 MHz), with overclocking support – from 3600-3800 MHz. It makes sense for users of Ryzen 1000 and 2000 with 4 and 6 cores to upgrade. For processors, you should take Ryzen 5 3600 or Ryzen 5 5600X, for video cards – minimum RTX 3050 (for Ryzen 5 3600 the logical limit would be RTX 3060, 3060 Ti, RX 6600/XT, for Ryzen 5 5600X – RTX 3070/Ti, RX 6700/XT).

For the LGA 1151 v1 platform, the engineeringi7-7700 ES processor (it will have the i7-6700 level) and RTX 3050 video card. There is a second method – modification of the motherboard and Bios in order to obtain support for six- and eight-core processors on LGA 1151 (Coffee Lake). After that, you can purchase at least an engineering QNLW i7-8700 ES with an RTX 3060 or RX 6600 video card. The optimal maximum could be an eight-core engineering i9-9900 ES. If you already have an LGA 1151 v2 processor, then it’s better to simply replace it with one of the models mentioned above, and there is no limit on video cards at all.

Under LGA 1200, you can order a six-core i5-10500 ES on AliExpress (it can handle an RTX 3060 or RX 6600 level video card).
