A detailed guide on how to unlock Bootloader (Bootloader) on Xiaomi smartphones using a special utility
Xiaomi company blocks Bootloader on theirsmartphones to protect user data. In addition, if the mobile device is lost or stolen, the new owner or the thief will not be able to install another firmware or make a hard reset, thereby bypassing the password, and using the smartphone from scratch.
On the other hand, it can be a problem ifThe real owner of the smartphone Xiaomi decides to reinstall the firmware or do a reset. Fortunately, the Chinese company understands its users, which is why it offers a fairly easy way to unlock the Bootloader on a Xiaomi smartphone.
I have a Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 smartphone in my hands, so I’ll look at how to unlock Bootloader on this device. However, this manual is suitable for all Xiaomi smartphones.
How to unlock Bootloader on Xiaomi Redmi Note 3?
PART 1: Request permission to unlock the bootloader
Step 1 - Open your favorite web browser on your computer (Google Chrome is recommended). Then go to the following link - http://en.miui.com/unlock/.
Step 2 - You will see the official page "Unlock your Mi Device”Which translates as“ unlock your MI device ”. Click on the blue button "Unlock Now"(Unlock now).
Step 3 - You will see a login page in Chinese. I used the browser’s built-in translation feature from Google to understand what is written there.
In English, this page is as follows:
You need to enter the phone number and password of your MI account.
Step 4 - After you have logged in, you will see the "Unlock Application Permissions"As in the image below:
Step 5 - Fill all necessary fields. In the bigger fieldPlease enter your reason for unlocking Bootloader"(Please enter reason to unlockBootloader) enter the following text in Chinese - "的 手机 是 砖砌 在 启动 循环 模式。 请 批准 我 的 请求 开锁". It means the following: “My smartphone hung in loop mode. Please unlock Bootloader to fix the error. "
After filling in all the fields, click on the green button "Apply immediately".
Step 6 - On the next page you will need to enter a confirmation code, which was sent to you by SMS. The code is valid for 5 minutes, so do not delay.
If you have not received the code, wait 10 minutes before clicking the "To send" again. If you click on the "Send" button too often, your IP address will be blocked.
Step 7 - After the 6-digit code is entered, youwill be redirected to the next page, as in the image below. It says that your application for unlocking Bootloader sent. Xiaomi developers will review it.
You will receive an SMS message when the Bootloader unlock application is approved. Usually, the message arrives within 3-21 days. Be patient.
PART 2: Unlocking Bootloader on Xiaomi Redmi Note 3
Preparing to unlock Bootloader:
- You must have an active MI account on your Xiaomi smartphone with Bootloader unlock permission (to do this, perform PART 1 described above).
- Your Xiaomi smartphone should have MIUI firmware version 6.1.12 or later installed.
- Backup your data before unlocking the bootloader on Xiaomi Redmi Note 3.
- Download Mi Flash Unlock for Windows from this link, then install it on your computer.
If you are ready, follow the instructions below to unlock the bootloader on Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 or on any other Xiaomi smartphone:
Step 1 - Log into your MI account on your smartphone.
Step 2 - Switch to mode Bootloader (downloads). To do this, turn off your smartphone, then press and hold the button Inclusions and button Volume down at the same time.
Step 3 - On the computer, open the MiFlash Unlock program. Click “I Agree”.
Step 4 - Sign in to the MiFlash Unlock program from the same MI account as on your smartphone.
Step 5 - Now connect your Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 smartphone to your computer using a USB cable.
Step 6 - After the smartphone is connected,The "Unlock" button will be active. Click on it, and the unlocking of Xiaomi’s bootloader will start. The unlock process takes about 10 - 15 seconds.

After unlocking the Bootloader on the Xiaomi smartphone, you will be able to install FastBoot or custom firmware, as well as reset the settings.
Note:
- One MI account can unlock only one Xiaomi device for 30 days.
- If you get the message “currentthe user is not logged in to the connected device ”(current user is not logged in connected device), then restart your smartphone, then log in to the MI account (see Step 1).
- Unlocking Bootloader on Xiaomi deletes all user data. That is why we recommend creating a backup.
