Huawei announces $ 1 million prize pool for HMS apps

Following the imposition of US sanctions, Huawei continues to develop its own Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) and is actively seeking

application developers. This is precisely the main goal of the new Huawei AppsUp competition.

What it is

This is a competition for developers whose goal is tobring them together and provide an opportunity to showcase their work and skills. Huawei promises developers a full set of tools and resources, Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) and HMS Core, with which they can create applications. In turn, the competition applications should promote the development of smart technologies to improve the user experience in the daily operating scenarios of Huawei devices.

How to participate

Applications are accepted from June 30 to August 30. You can take part on your own or in a team of up to 3 people. You must register on the official website.

All applications must be based on HMS Core.Entries must be submitted by 18:00 (UTC+8) on August 30, 2020. A jury of industry experts and Huawei leaders will evaluate each application for its functionality, innovation, commercial value and practicality.

After this, the 20 best applications will be selectedfrom each region (China, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, Europe, Middle East and Africa), which will be put up for voting on the website. In October, the finalists will present their applications to a jury in the competition for the grand prize during the final ceremony.

Prizes

The total prize fund for the competition is US$1 million. The winners will be determined in the following categories:

  • Outstanding App (x5 winners per region) - $15,000 cash prize
  • Outstanding Game (x3 winners per region) - $15,000 cash prize
  • Honorable Award (x12 winners per region) - $2,500 cash prize
  • Best Social Impact App (*3 winners per region) - $5,000 cash prize
  • Most Popular App (*1 winner per region) - $5,000 cash prize
