Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro: without Google services, but with a “waterfall” screen, new cameras and design

Huawei today unveiled its new flagship smartphone family, the Mate 30, in Munich.

Huawei Mate 30 Pro

The older version received a 6.53-inch OLEDHorizon Display with a resolution of 2400x1176 pixels is the same “waterfall” display as the Vivo Nex 3. The edges of the screen are curved by 88 degrees, which is why the effect of the display “flowing down” is created. In addition, using these edges you can control the volume and camera: swipe up or down to make the sound louder or quieter, tap on the edge and take a selfie. This feature can be disabled in settings.

There is a small “bang” at the top, but itlooks smaller and neater than the iPhone. By the way, Huawei spent a lot of time on the presentation of the new “Apple” smartphones, but they, of course, are inferior to the Mate 30 (who would doubt it): their frames are thicker, their screen is smaller with the same dimensions, and their battery is smaller.

But let's go back to the cut:In addition to the selfie camera, there is a motion sensor here, with which you can control the smartphone with gestures: for example, scrolling pages or taking screenshots if your hands are dirty. The sensor can also recognize “strangers” and hide personal information if a stranger is looking at the screen.

The fingerprint scanner is under-screen, there is protection against dust and moisture according to the IP68 standard and Always-on Display mode.

A top-end processor is installed inside the flagshipHuawei Kirin 990 paired with 8 GB of RAM and 128/256 GB of ROM. There is NFC, a USB Type-C 3.1 connector, two SIM card slots and a 4500 mAh battery with support for 40 W fast charging and 27 W fast wireless charging. We haven’t forgotten about reverse charging: that is, a smartphone can wirelessly charge other gadgets.

Also placed inside were 21 antennas, 14of which - to support 5G. And here there is a comparison with the Samsung Note 10+ 5G: the Mate 30 Pro is faster than 5G, heats up less and consumes less energy.

And finally, another pride of Huawei Mate 30Pro is the main camera. It is made in the style of conventional cameras (well, at least not a kitchen stove): the sensors are located in a round module. The main sensor is a 40-megapixel SuperSensing (f/1.6) with RYYB sensor, which debuted in the Huawei P30 Pro, which provides good shooting quality in low light. The second sensor is a 40-megapixel wide-angle lens (f/1.8), while the third is an 8-megapixel telephoto lens (f/2.4). The fourth is the 3D module (ToF). 3x optical and 30x digital zoom are claimed.

This camera can shoot super slow-motion videos.7680fps at 720p and 960fps at 1080p. There is support for ISO up to 51200, and the ability to blur the background on video.

The front camera is 32-megapixel (f/2.0) and can shoot videos in a resolution of 2288x1080 pixels.

Huawei Mate 30

The younger model has a 6.62-inch flat AMOLEDdisplay with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and a resolution of 2340×1080 pixels. There is also a “bang” at the top, but it is even smaller than that of the Mate 30 Pro. The fingerprint scanner is under-screen, there is protection against dust and splashes according to the IP53 standard and Always-on Display mode.

Inside, the same Huawei Kirin 990 processor is installed in conjunction with 6/8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of ROM. The battery capacity is 4200 mAh, there is support for fast charging at 40 W and fast wireless charging at 27 W.

The main camera is made in the same style(round module), but not with four, but with three sensors: a 40-megapixel SuperSensing (f/1.8), a 16-megapixel wide-angle camera (f/2.2) and an 8-megapixel telephoto lens. There is also laser autofocus, 3x optical and 30x digital zoom, as well as macro photography from a distance of 2.5 cm.
