"Hubble" showed the fiery nebula Soul: protostars are born there

The NASA and European Space Agency space observatory captured an impressive image of the object.

The Soul Nebula is located approximatelyat 7 000 light years from Earth. According to the scientists who process the Hubble data, the new image contains several interesting details. One of them is a free-floating evaporating gaseous globule (frEGG). In the photograph, it appears as a dark floating cloud at the top of the image.

The globule was named KAG2008 globule13 and designated as J025838.6+604259. It belongs to the class of evaporating gaseous globules (EGG). They appear in nebulae when energetic radiation from young stars ionizes the surrounding gas, removing their electrons. The gas then dissipates.

FrEGGs differ from EGGs in that they are separatefrom the surrounding gas, which gives them a teardrop-shaped appearance. Both types of objects are of interest to scientists: it is believed that stars are born there. In addition, the gas inside them is protected from ionization and photoevaporation. This is thought to be important for the formation of protostars.
