Hubble went into safe mode: NASA cannot understand the cause of the failure

The Hubble telescope's scientific instruments generated error codes at 1:46 a.m. ET on 23

October (2:46 Moscow time). They indicated the loss of a specific synchronization message. It provides timing information that tools use to correctly respond to data requests and commands. The mission team rebooted the instruments and resumed science operations the next morning.

At 2:38 a.m. ET October 25 (3:38 Moscow time) scientific instruments again gave error codes indicating multiple loss of synchronization messages. As a result, the scientific instruments independently went into a safe mode, as it was programmed.

Mission team members evaluate dataspacecraft and the state of the systems in order to better understand the synchronization problem and how to solve it. They are also developing and testing procedures to collect additional data from Hubble. These events are expected to last at least a week.

Let us remind you that the Hubble Space Telescope -an automatic observatory (telescope) in orbit around the Earth, named after the American astronomer Edwin Hubble. Hubble is a joint project of NASA and the European Space Agency and is one of NASA's Large Observatories. Launched in 1990.
