Human organs will grow in space: in the future, production will be organized on the ISS

The experiment “3D organoids in space” will take place on the ISS: equipment and materials will be delivered to the station during

next supply mission. 

Organelles are permanent parts of the cell that performcertain functions. Toxicological studies can be carried out on artificial three-dimensional organoids, which will eliminate animal experiments.  Organoids can also replace tissue fragments in the treatment of damaged organs. 

Three-dimensional organelles cannot be grown on Earth without some kind of supporting framework. In space, where there is no gravity, this problem is solved by itself.

During the next mission, they will sendtissue stem cells of two women and two men of different ages. The researchers will test how reliable their method is when using cells with different biological variability.

Scientists also plan that in the future there will be a workshop on the ISS for the production of human tissue that can be used on Earth for scientific purposes and in medicine. 

Now the organizers of the experiment are faced with the main question - how long can organoids be stored after transportation and in what form is this best done.
