If you were looking for a budget smartphone that looks cool and expensive

It seems that clumsily designing cheap smartphones is no longer cool. Previously, they were riveted according to the principle “and so

will do”, but now in the budget segmentSerious competition has unfolded, so the exterior of these smartphones is given, if not the flagship amount of attention, then at least at the level of a confident middle class. What kind of affordable handsome guy are we talking about? I'll tell you now. Discuss7.5/10Rated by FerraInfinix HOT 12 Pro

There is a feeling that 2022 will be remembered by us as a yearbeautiful smartphones. Well, or if not even directly beautiful, then at least unusual and interesting models in their own way. For example, TECNO has gone into a catchy “gaming” design, Samsung continues to improve the Flip clamshell fashion line, realme is experimenting with a tourist exterior, collaborating with Naruto and making “paper” smartphones, OPPO is about to release a middle-class dude. At this point, I could still remember a lot of cool smartphones in 2022, but I’m already pretty tired of listing, and you probably want to get to the point.

And the bottom line is that Infinix made one of the mostbeautiful and stylish budget smartphones. It is called HOT 12 Pro. And it seems that the prefix "Pro" is responsible here for the design issue. Don't believe? Well, then check out the Hot 12 Play review or the HOT 12i review. It seems to be neighbors in the line, but what is the difference between them! However, the appearance there was not bad, rather just ordinary. Of the cool ones, perhaps only the textured rear panels, but this does not pull on the wow effect. Next to them, HOT 12 Pro looks twice as expensive.

In principle, there is a feeling that at the end of 2022Infinix finished warming up and decided to make the very powerful breakthrough that we expected from it. Not only are their budget smartphones starting to look cooler than many, but the first full-fledged flagship from the Zero series looms on the horizon. It is possible that next year it will be time for Xiaomi and realme in all price ranges to tighten up with a new competitor.

Design

As I already boldly hinted at in the introduction, the design of the Infinix HOT 12 Pro is top-notch. The product, for its price, will turn out beautiful without exaggeration. There are four colors to choose from: black, white, blue and green. The smartphone has a straight perimeter frame without roundness, a step in front and a step in the back provide a rather interesting grip feeling. The back simultaneously resembles Huawei and Honor smartphones from the middle class to flagships, as well as the top-end Asus ZenFon 9.

The back panel pretends to be glass, but thisplastic of course. Good, high-quality plastic that will not treacherously sag when pressed with a finger. The build quality and solidity of the case are excellent. Of the minuses, perhaps the increased glossiness of the gloss, but there is no getting away from this. On the other hand, how easily a smartphone collects fingerprints and dust particles, it is just as easy to clean them. And besides, there is a backup option - a complete silicone case.

Nicely done camera platform.By itself, it does not protrude beyond the case, but is simply indicated by the texture of the CD with rays diverging from the center. And the cameras pop up. Well, it is not possible to put actual sensors flush with the case and it is high time to get used to it. In general, this solution looks cool. It doesn't happen often, so it doesn't get boring.

Budget gives out except that the fingerprint scanner onback. But someone is even more familiar and likes it more than when it is combined with the power button on the side. Inexpensive smartphones rarely change, so many of those who are now moving to the HOT 12 Pro have become accustomed to unlocking from the back over the years.

Display

Screens, alas, were and remain the most controversial partinfinix. According to the characteristics, everything seems to be on the level - 6.6 inches, IPS, resolution 720 x 1612 pixels, refresh rate 90 Hz - but the factory calibration is strange to say the least. You turn on your smartphone - and “Mood Color Blue”, “Blue Hoarfrost” and other stupid songs on the theme of the notorious blue immediately play in your head. As they say, choose any.

Infinix HOT 12 ProMaximum brightness level381cd/m2 Contrast (more = better) 1383:1 Color gamut (sRGB) (90-100% is ideal) 99% DeltaE (less = better) 7.5 Gamma (ideal - 2.2) 2.4 Color temperature (ideal = 6500K) >9000K

Let's go in order. The brightness is normal: in manual mode, 381 cd/m2, that is, higher than other smartphones in the HOT line, although slightly lower than, for example, Xiaomi Redmi 10 (Xiaomi gives out 390 cd/m2). If you put it on a car and fry the smartphone under the bright summer sun at the discretion of the light sensor, it will, of course, be brighter. It turns out that readability is sufficient. The contrast ratio of 1383:1 is not a record, but it is also normal.

Color rendering at sRGB level. HD+ resolution is the standard for budget smartphones today, up to, unfortunately, 15,000 rubles. For example, in office retail (no need to talk about Aliexpress here -there is a separate article for that.) even Realme C35 with FHD display will cost a littlemore expensive (16 thousand rubles), and Xiaomi Redmi 10, again, officially costs 18 thousand rubles with a smaller amount of RAM (4/128, not 8/128, like Infinix).

You can imagine what over 9000K whites look like on a smartphone screen

HOT 12 Pro problems start at the moment of measurementcolor accuracy. The average delta E, that is, the deviation of colors from the standard, is exactly 7.5, while the ideal value is less than 1, and the normal value is within 3. Measuring white balance does not lend itself to our colorimeter at all. Although we have a professional product, it cannot handle more than 9000K. And this is a very, very blue light. I even wonder what the actual temperature is in Infinix smartphones?

Performance

Wonderful things are now in the processor market.Until recently, everyone twisted their nose at MediaTek, and they refused to consider satisfied owners of smartphones with Unisoc “stones” as people. Well, where are we now? In some cases, the flagship MediaTek is now preferable to the hot Snapdragon, and the Unisoc T616 from Infinix HOT 12 Pro according to AnTuTu is in some cases a couple of percent slower than Snapdragon 680 products, in some cases it is a couple of percent faster. And in general, the “ugly duckling” feels great in the junior middle class in terms of power. If you need more examples, it comes out somewhere at the level of Helio G8X.

13

The truth in the purely processor benchmark GeekBenchand in terms of graphics performance, Unisoc T616 is still noticeably inferior to Snapdragon 680, but now you can not disdain these chips. Let's see, maybe in a year or two they will even reach the same level with Qualcomm?

In general, Infinix HOT 12 Pro certainly does not pull on“State employee for games”, but it’s impossible to call it brake either. Suitable if from time to time you want to cut yourself into something, but you don’t see it as your meaning of life and the only option for mobile leisure.

Just in case, let me remind you that Unisoc Tiger T616Made on 12 nm process technology, it has two fast 2 GHz Cortex-A75 cores and six economical 1.8 GHz Cortex-A55 cores. Graphics on the Mali-G57 MP1 chip. RAM 8 GB, drive 128. There is support for memory cards, and microSD is placed in a separate slot, and not instead of the second SIM card.

Autonomous work

In terms of battery life, you usually expect frombudget smartphones are the next records, but the Unisoc chip does not have this. For example, the same realme Pad mini tablet on the process of this manufacturer works only 7% longer, although with a 6500 mAh battery. Infinix HOT 12 Pro normally lasts a day without recharging, so although it did not manage to become a record holder, the user experience is generally normal. Often you do not have to run to the outlet.

By the way, the smartphone is charged via USB Type-C, the kit includes a QuickCharge base power adapter, that is, 18 watts.

Cameras

The main module is declared double, but in factsingle. Where there is usually an ultra-wide, the Infinix HOT 12 Pro has a two-megapixel auxiliary plug. In theory, it should somehow participate in the shooting process and help the shots get better, but no matter how much I encounter these sensors, I have not yet been able to understand what their real benefit is. Well, in addition to making the appearance of the smartphone more respectable.

1/16

The main sensor is 50 MP, f/1.6 aperture.Sounds cool on paper. In fact, there are a lot of megapixels, but little pleasure. The quality of shooting is normal for the budget segment, but it can be better. And it happens better with fewer megapixels. Basically claims to detail and dynamic range. But in general, something is good for taking a picture, and sharpness and bright colors can be tweaked in the editor.

The front camera has a resolution of 8 megapixels. The shooting quality is nothing outstanding, the photo shows that even in good lighting conditions the background lacks detail, and the narrow dynamic range ate quite a lot of information in bright areas. On the other hand, if you look at the face, it seems to have turned out well. Sharpness is good, color reproduction is realistic. For a selfie camera, after all, the face is the main thing, which means that we will assume that it copes with its duties normally.

Competitors and Conclusions

If you started looking at the Infinix HOT 12Pro, most likely you are looking for a smartphone with a beautiful design. So, it hardly makes sense to look for where to get a better screen or more power for the same money. Get something you get, but at the cost of aesthetics.

But from the pretty state employees can be notedtwo TECNO smartphones that I recently tested: Pova 3 and Pova Neo 2. The first one costs a thousand more, but it has a large Full HD screen, better gaming performance, and better shooting quality. Of the minuses - it is large and heavy, and even thin plastic feels good with your hands.

If you save money, then you can look at PovaNeo 2 is close to Infinix in terms of characteristics, but it will win in terms of autonomy and screen size, but will lose in size and weight. Be that as it may, these three smartphones are among the most interesting right now, if we talk about the budget segment in terms of design.
