In Primorye, Red Book whale cub gets entangled in nets and dies

On April 1, in the vicinity of the village of Terney, in Malaya Bay, the corpse of a small whale was found. Ecologists believe that

the whale died because it became entangled in the gear of industrial fishing gear: traces of a halyard or rope are visible on its body.

After the examination, it turned out that thisa newborn male whale (body length was 4.7 m), presumably, the specific name of this whale is the northern swimmer. This is a rather rare and poorly studied species, which is included in the Red Book of Primorsky Krai.

Found baby northern swimmer did not diedeath, and, obviously, got entangled in the equipment of industrial fishing gear. Three light furrows are clearly visible across his body - traces of a halyard or rope. There is a significant correlation between cetacean sightings and drift net fishing. Whales, killer whales, and dolphins are often found as bycatch.
